Beyond Penguins and Polar Bears

Does your student need reading practice? Do you have a student who loves to read about science and social studies? Here is a site I’d like to recommend to you. Beyond Penguins and Polar Bears is a website presented by Ohio State University. They offer stories about polar exploration, glaciers, whales, Inuit, and more. All of their stories are available at three elementary grade levels (with the Flesch-Kincaid level listed for each one). All of their stories are also available in three formats: text only, printable illustrated book, and electronic book. The electronic book also has a feature where the story can be read to your child. More than a dozen stories are available.

The best part is that this site of nonfiction stories is free and as of today’s date does not require login or sign up to access.
