What Your History Teacher Didn’t Say

Presidential Proclamation

Did you know?

August 12, 1861–President Abraham Lincoln and both houses of Congress issued and signed a proclamation calling on the last Thursday of September to be a national day of humiliation, prayer and fasting.

You should check it out! http://www.sdfa.org/lincoln_a.htm

As many pray and remember 9/11 on this September 11 ten year anniversary, consider these words of President Lincoln:

“It is fit and becoming in all people, at all times, to acknowledge and revere the Supreme Government of God; to bow in humble submission to his chastisements; to confess and deplore their sins and transgressions in the full conviction that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; and to pray with all fervency and contrition, for the pardon of their past offences…….and in sorrowful remembrance of our own faults and crimes as a nation and as individuals, to humble ourselves before Him, and to pray for His mercy…”
